For the Egyptians, the Aquarius "water bear" design is thought to represent the Egyptian god Hapi pouring forth the water of life from his vase. Hapi was the god of the Nile, the magical river that represented life itself to Egypt. For the Babylonians, Aquarius is associated with the god Ea. It is interesting that a water-like, life giving substance was also believed to flow from the finger tips of this god.

The Aquarius symbol or "glyph" itself appears to consist of two lines of wavy water. While this clearly seems to represent water, recent interpretations also associate the Aquarius glyph with electricity (the symbol for electricity is nearly identical to the Aquarius glyph).

At first it may seem strange that Aquarius is so closely associated with water since Aquarius is an air sign. However, it is what the water represented in the original mythology of the glyph and design that needs to be understood. In this mythology water represents a life giving, magical substance, ...this is what is important.
