The exact source of the mythical Sea Goat creature with the constellation of Capricorn is difficult to precisely identify.

The Greeks associated Capricorn with Amalthea, a half goat, half nymph creature. Amalthea fed Zeus while he was on the island of Crete hiding from his father Cronus. According to Greek mythology Amalthea was added to the heavens as the constellation of Capricorn when Zeus became the leader of the gods.

However, many associate the Capricorn Sea-Goat with the Babylonian god 'Ea'. Ea is often depicted as a man wearing the skin of a huge fish from head to tail and many make this Capricorn association. Ea was said to have come from the Sea to teach mankind how to live. Additionally, Ea was occasionally referred to as the "Antelope of the Ocean".

The Capricorn symbol or glyph represents this mystical creature as well.
